Halloween!

Firstly, apologies for my lack of posts recently but I blame UCAS....is there anything more stressful? I think the idea is to make the application process so confusing and bloody stressful that you give up applying all together. However I can now relax as my application is finished and sent and I am so happy to see the end of my personal statement!
Last weekend my friends and I went out for Halloween and had an absolute ball! I love seeing what everybody dresses up as and what atrocious outfits certain people deem acceptable - halloween or not, there is no excuse for suspenders attached to thongs with leotards over! I made my costume this year, having bought the nurse last year I decided that this year I would just make my own to get exactly what I want (and save money - I am a total cheap skate these days, and having just purchased Vivienne Westwood shoes, there is a large hole in my pocket!) Anyway, here are the photos! Happy halloween xoxo

October begins....

Hotter than August! Typical xxx

Kanye West - PFW

I was so excited to see Kanye West's debut at Fashion Week, fully expecting a show full of sequins and plenty of divas gracing front row. After the success of Victoria Beckham's collections, I had high hopes for fashion-forward Kanye, especially having been seen front row for most shows at NYFW. However, I couldn't help being disappointed once I saw the photos from the show. I can't be doing with too much flesh - all of the outfits are too chesty, slashed or short. I love a few pieces in particular but none stood out to me. I love the fur and stacked pearls he has used, but for me something was missing. It would be unfair to completely kill the collection, as I love the fur and leather combinations - I am definitely recreating this look with a leather tunic and furs from ebay. Kanye's shoes looked amazing on the catwalk, I am feeling like gluing pearls to my white courts as we speak. I also totally fell in love with his use of beading and embellishments on his white garments as well as the zips up the bottoms of dresses. Overall, the collection isn't bad but far from what I was expecting - out of the ordinary, extravagant designs. Instead, Kanye channeled normal, wearable looks with small details (which I love). I just feel he went all out in some areas - for example dodgy spaceman-esque, and dropped in others. Definitely trying leather with fur and pearl encrusted shoes though!

NYFW - Jason Wu

Where to start?! I was originally going to write one post on New York Fashion Week, but I have too much to say for one post! There will be more to follow but trying to keep it short and sweet!  Firstly, I have totally fallen in love with Jason Wu's S/S12 collection. I love Wu's monochrome and contrasting pastel palette, fresh take on floral patterns and flowing fabrics. Here are some of my favourite pieces, admittedly I don't like all of the collection, the preppy secretary look just isn't to my taste. However my favourite pieces include a floral blouse/short combo, contrasting powder pink/monochrome flowers and a gorgeous lime green chiffon. I think I will be investing in some new florals and definitely a two-piece........but I must stop eating Krispy Kremes first!

Alber Elbaz

Can't believe I am back at school already, where has the summer disappeared to? I am so upset to finally have to drift back to reality, get back into routine of early mornings and hard work and the dreaded UCAS application. However, I was somewhat cheered up by the Lanvin Fall 2011 ad campaign, channelling fashion and comedy in one.  Steven Meisel captured models dancing for Prada's Spring 2011 campaign and has done the same for Lanvin, the video featuring models  Raquel Zimmermann and Karen Elson dance in sync to Pitbull's "I Know You Want Me" — with Alber Elbaz makes a dancing cameo at the end. I just love the whole idea behind the campaign, and the feeling of making fashion relatable to the masses. The whole video brings fashion back down to earth and back to what it should be about - fun and expression of personality. Personally, Alber's cameo at the end makes the whole video for me! LOVE XXX

Work Experience

With the thought of school on Friday looming, I was just sitting here reflecting on ways in which I have wasted my 6 weeks off, when I realised that I hadn't posted about work experience. At the start of the summer, I carried out a weeks work experience with National Museums Liverpool - specialising in the Decorative Arts department. Just for those who don't know, the NML group consists of The Walker Art Gallery, The Lady Lever Art Gallery, The Maritime Museum, Museum of Liverpool, World Museum and Sudley House. I had an amazing week, mostly hands-on in the costume department picking out dresses for upcoming exhibitions such as Fashion Through the Ages and Titanic, the costume department was like heaven! I fell in love with so many pieces. I also carried out a day at Lady Lever Art Gallery in Port Sunlight, somewhere I regret to admit I had never visited prior to my placement and I fell in love with the building, surroundings and pieces inside. However, the day I was most looking forward to, a day in the Fine Art department at The Walker Art Gallery was totally disappointing - the Fine Art curator went home sick and I was left to file artists A-Z. This aside, I had a lovely day at the gallery helping out with the Art In Revolution exhibition - definitely worth visiting! And of course my favourites, Pre-Rafaelite Art. My week with NML definitely made me consider curating! Anyway, below are a few of the pieces that I fell in love with!

#WISHLIST

Things that I need but can't quite afford, hello overdraft.............

Miu Miu Glitter Heels.......I need these desperately! I love the unusual shape of the shoe and heel, as well as the contrast between the glitter and the suede panels. I just can't decide between silver or gold!

Alexander McQueen antique gold skull rings @ Selfridges. So different to anything else you see - the flowers around the skull are too cute to resist.

Vivienne Westwood is one of my favourite designers and I am hopeless for anything by her. I love the colour of this take on the classic satchel shape, and the hexagonal shape. MUST HAVE!

I love all of Victoria Beckham's dresses, but this one is still a firm favourite. Purple AW 09 still needs to be mine, perfect with the black courts.

Victoria Beckham again but this time her AW11 pumpkin clutch. It is fabulous and that is all.
