Gwen Stefani
I have always been obsessed with Gwen and recently got so excited to see her back on the cover of Elle after having time out of the spotlight with her two children. My obsession only grew when I saw her and Gavin Rossdale at Cannes - Gwen looking stunning in one of my favourite designers, Stella McCartney. The colour compliments her porcelain skin perfectly - and a surprise change from her usual scarlet to pink for her lips. I also love the dip neck trend, Gwen of course looking fabulous.
Cannes Chanel Cruise show
I have been deserting this for the past week due to stress of exams and my latest Textiles project, however, I just had to write a post about the Chanel Cruise show. Not only did Lagerfeld's latest collection look amazing, so did the guests. I hate to admit it but I am warming to Alexa Chung - a definite style crush but I don't think I will ever like her! She wore a fabulous baby pink raw - hemmed dress that shouldn't work but of course did. With the pocahontas-style fringing and babydoll colours, it looks amazing on Alexa but probably would not work for anyone else. Bang on trend with the midi-length, she looks radiant in the Cannes sunshine.
The designs that stole the Lagerfeld show for me were not the monochrome swimwear collection but this tapestry-esque design embroidered with real diamonds and pearls - of course! For me, the sheer midi panel makes the design of the dress unique and is definitely on my wish list! I also love the weaved designs worn by Clemence Poesy and Laura Bailey - definitely ones to watch for A/W 11.

Lemon Calvin Klein
So after experimenting with tangerine, is it time to pick up some lemon pieces? After seeing Zoe Saldana's lemon Calvin Klein floor-sweeper for the met ball I think I need to pick up a few pieces myself.
Colour Blocking
Colour blocking. A trend that expresses everything I love about fashion - experimentation, excitement and dangerous designs. However, I have to admit that I am not one for experimenting with colours - I am a culprit of sticking to blacks and nudes, my wardrobe hoarded with black dresses (which, admittedly, you can never have too many of!). So after being inspired by S/S 11 from one of my favourite designers - Jil Sander, I decided it was about time to be a little more experimental and inject some colour into my wardrobe. Zara is my favourite high street store at the moment - the soft fabrics, elegant cuts and fits and now their ever expanding colour palette. So, with Sander in mind, a few months ago I purchased a hot pink shift - bargain at £25, and haven't taken it off since. The colour goes surprisingly well with my ginger hair (and complexion), and looks great with flats or heels. Last week, wages in hand, I went back to Zara and was even more daring - both with my money (spending over 100....how?!) and colour choice, buying a green skirt. I surprised myself, I love it and the cut is gorgeous. Next step.....Tangerine.

Nudes
Not one for experimenting much with bright colours, for fear of washing me out (even more so), I felt reassured to see so many fabulous nude outfits on the Met Ball pictures. I love nudes partly for the fact that they work so well for every skin and hair colour but also for the fact that they work perfectly with embellishments - which I am obsessed with, Elie Saab being a firm favourite. I love how nudes can be understated and gorgeous as well as outlandish and fabulous - for example Gwyneth Paltrow's crystal-encrusted McCartney and Naomi Campbell's white McQueen couture. Nudes and whites will always be my palette of choice!
Some of my favourites....
My lovely friend Saffiyyah!
My beautiful friend Saffiyyah is my model for Textiles and is fabulous, her sense of style immaculate and individual. Some of my rough fashion drawings of her..
Vogue Best Dressed
Looking over Vogue's best dressed of the week has only confirmed my definite style-crush on Blake Lively. Can she ever put a foot wrong? Her Chanel couture dress for the Met Ball gala is to die for - draped fabrics and stunning embellishments in luxurious greys and charcoals. For some reason the design almost shouldn't work, but Blake pulls it off effortlessly with nude strappy heels and tousled hair. In love!
Treacy Nightmares
Better late than never, but over a week after the gorgeous Royal Wedding I still can't understand some of the atrocious hat choices by the guests. Usually a lover of Treacy's headware, I couldn't help but wonder what was going through the minds of some of the guests when they chose their designs - particularly Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. Subject to numerous ridiculing tabloids and Facebook pages, I was not one to disagree, Beatrice's ribbon-adorned nude hat being the worst I have seen for a while. Treacy on the other hand insists he loved the Princesses ensemble - claiming to be inspired by 'beauty and elegance'. If this is 21st century beauty and elegance then I don't know what is.
Glastonbury 2011
Roll on 22nd June! Exams over and hitting Glastonbury with the girls from school and I cannot wait! Revising has gone out of the window - so much more interested in my Glastonbury playlist and buying festival clothes. Can't wait to see all of the fabulous clothes there - and all the shockers. Definite tassel overload predicted for these 5 days! Going all elderly chic this year - granny trollies, bumbags and full brimmed hats.
Some of my faves from last year...
Some of my faves from last year...
Emma Watson, definitely my girl crush! She looks amazing in anything - I love the leopard belt and Vuitton bag.
Paloma never fails to disappoint! Love the gold with the emerald and the shoulder embellishing is fabulous!
Also.....is it impossible to make bum bags look good?! Only Westwood would design combined short/bag designs, innovative yet hardly what I would call fashionable!
.....Had my Hunters sitting in my room for weeks!
First post!
Decided to start blogging - how often I will remember to post is another matter! I love all things art and fashion and blogging is something new to keep me occupied!! xxx
